Amanda Brugel
(February 27 2010 - Toronto ON) Pointe Claire is a quiet community located on the part of Montreal called the West Island. It is a bit of a mystery as the West Island can be confusing for those who aren't familiar with its meaning. Many people believe that it's an island to the to the west of Montreal however it's actually the West Island encompasses everything between the two cities in Lachine as well as West. Amanda Brugel grew up on the West Island, and it is often called her birthplace. But she only resided there for a very short duration. Brugel grew on Courtice just outside Oshawa located in Ontario. Her early ambition was to be a dancer but an increase in her height resulted in her outgrowing the dancers she was with. She admitted in an article written by the Toronto Star that she is 6'1" tall and wears heels. When I grew out of my male dancers, I decided to quit. Many former dancers turn to acting, and in Brugel's case it was a suggestion from an instructor in drama at high school who led her in the right direction. It was the teacher who recommended she take on a part in the annual school production. The student tried it out, and eventually got the lead for the role in Anne of Green Gables. Following her award of the Fine Arts Talent Scholarship, she attended York University and earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree in 2000. For the last twenty years, her work has been featured on both the large and small screen. The most notable was her attention when she won her part as Rita on the award-winning TV series The Handmaid's Tale. Brugel was the sole Canadian cast member during Season 1 of the show and was only appeared on occasion.
